Did You Know?

Find out some interesting things about me and my books. If you have a question that you would like the answer published to.... email me at john@pauldorset.com. If I like it, I'll add it below.

Q: Who drew your cover picture for the first book Xannu - The Prophecy?
A: My eldest daughter Rebecca drew the picture for me when she was 16 years old. Art is one of her talents and you can look forward to seeing her latest creation on the front cover of Xannu - The Healing

Q: Are any of your characters based on real people?
A: There are bits of people in lots of my characters, but there are no characters that are based just on one person (that's my story anyway!)

Q: When did you write the first book and how long did it take to complete?
A: I wrote Xannu - The Prophecy in a three month period at the end of 2001 into 2002. The book was finally published in November 2003

Q: How would you describe your book and what authors influenced you?
A: A difficult question! I wanted to write a series of exciting books for pre- and young teens; something that wouldn't be finished in five minutes of reading. When I was young I loved the C.S. Lewis series 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'. I also liked the fantasy of 'Lord of the Rings', but I found it quite difficult as a young reader. So I guess these books are somewhere in between; exciting fantasy that should be relatively easy reading for most readers. Of course, it's a great read for adults too!

Q: Why isn't your book on sale in bookstores?
A: I wish it was! It's very difficult getting an Agent and then a Publisher to print thousands of copies of the book, so that they can be distributed to bookstores. I chose to take the route of publishing it myself for the time being. Hopefully in the future, someone will want to buy the publishing rights from me. In the meantime you can buy copies from online retailers like amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com
